Helping Investors Build Long-Term Value

Tenuta San Guido

Tenuta San Guido is an investment market dominated by Sassicaia, one of Italy's most internationally recognised fine wines and the archetypal Super Tuscan. Mario Incisa della Rocchetta began experimenting with Cabernet at the estate in the early 1940s and planted the first dedicated vineyard in 1944, keeping Sassicaia a private family wine from 1945 through 1967. The 1968 vintage became the first commercial Sassicaia, released in 1971, its success helping transform Bolgheri's reputation entirely.

Vineyards

Tenuta San Guido covers roughly 2,500 hectares, much of it woodland and conservation land, with only a small proportion planted to vines. Sassicaia originated on the gravelly hills of Castiglioncello di Bolgheri, where Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc were chosen because the soils reminded Mario Incisa della Rocchetta of Graves.

Development

The 1968 vintage became the first commercial Sassicaia, released in 1971. Its success helped transform Bolgheri's reputation and contributed to the creation of the Bolgheri DOC; in 2013 Bolgheri Sassicaia received its own estate-specific denomination, an exceptional distinction in Italian wine.
