Getting Started

Everything You Need to Begin with Clarity.

Fine wine investment doesn't require existing wine knowledge. Our team guides you from your very first enquiry through to a fully managed, diversified portfolio, at a pace that suits you.

A Distinctive Alternative Asset.

Fine wine sits apart from traditional investments, a physical asset with real-world scarcity, genuine cultural weight, and a performance history worth understanding on its own terms.

Tangible & Physical

A real, physical asset you can see, visit, and hold, not just a number on a screen.

Highly Liquid

Multiple established channels, from auction to private sale, make exiting a position genuinely achievable when the time comes.

Tax Efficient

Generally treated as a wasting asset, sometimes called a wasting chattel, most gains fall outside Capital Gains Tax, with no excise duty or VAT while wine remains stored in-bond.

Diversifying

Historically low correlation to equities gives your wider investment portfolio real, meaningful ballast during volatility.

Think In Portfolios

The Individual Wine Is Only Part of the Picture

A single bottle, however remarkable, is rarely the full story. We help you think in portfolios, balancing regions, styles and vintages to build considered diversification over time, tailored to your own investment goals.

The Fundamentals

Fine Wine Investment, Clearly Explained

Fine wine behaves differently to traditional assets, shaped by real scarcity, vintage variation, and demand that only continues to grow.

Diversify & Hedge

A tangible asset that has historically resisted correlation with equities and traditional markets.

Unique Supply-Demand

Quality rises and supply depletes over time, driving long-term value.

Vintage Variation

Each year's climate produces wines that can never be replicated.

Quality & Reputation

Century-long producer reputations continue to enhance desirability and long-term asset value.

Highly Liquid

Strong, enduring markets allow relatively fast sale across multiple channels.

Frequently Asked

Common Questions, Answered

This guide covers the fundamentals, but a few questions come up more than any other. Here are the ones we're asked most often.

How much do I need to start investing?

There's no strict minimum, we manage portfolios from £5,000 to over £1 million. That said, £10,000-£20,000 or more typically gives access to higher-tier products and a genuinely diversified starting portfolio.

No. As a client, you get direct access to our combined expertise, including help identifying the right stock for your goals, plus ongoing market insight through our podcast, website and newsletter.

Yes, you're buying physical bottles as a commodity and hold the full certificate of title. Your wines are stored under your name with unique rotation numbers, so your investment is fully ring-fenced.

Yes, we can arrange a viewing with London City Bond's Eton Park Warehouse Manager, in a safe viewing area in line with Health & Safety guidelines.

Your personal online portal lets you view and track performance at any time, with downloadable documents and access to our Client Newsletter.

You can sell at any time, though we'd suggest a minimum of three years in storage with active management before disposal, to give the wine's value the best chance to develop.

When it comes to the best wines to invest in, a diversified mix of Old World and New World tends to work best. Bordeaux remains the largest, most established sector and a sensible focus for beginners, and we only work with wines scored, or expected to score, 90-100 points by Wine Advocate or other respected critics.

Like any commodity, fine wine's value can fall as well as rise. Wine investment isn't regulated by the FCA and isn't covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, so it's worth understanding this alongside the potential for growth.

Every Recommendation, Backed by Data.

We draw on trusted, independent sources across the industry, including Wine Advocate, The Wine Independent and the Liv-Ex Wine Index, alongside our own trading history, and weigh that data against your goals before any recommendation is made. Your portfolio manager works at your pace, keeping you fully informed at every stage.
