Home / Investment / Krug
Krug combines a broadly recognised prestige cuvée with one of Champagne's rarest single-vineyard wines. Joseph Krug founded the house in Reims in 1843 with the idea that great Champagne should be possible every year, regardless of vintage variation, building this model around separate vinification of individual plots and extensive stocks of reserve wines. Clos du Mesnil debuted from the 1979 vintage.

Krug works with a wide network of individual Champagne plots and vinifies them separately before blending. Its two most famous estate sites are Clos du Mesnil in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and the tiny Clos d'Ambonnay in Ambonnay. Plot identity and a deep reserve-wine library are fundamental to the house's blending philosophy.

The house remained closely associated with the Krug family across generations while its range expanded from Grande Cuvée and Vintage to single-vineyard bottlings. Clos du Mesnil debuted from the 1979 vintage, followed later by Clos d'Ambonnay, establishing a new level of site-specific rarity within the brand.
